Covers Friday - John Hughes edition

So we were arguing exactly what makes a chick flick. I of course chose the stance that all teen movies are by definition not chick flicks, because their target audiences are teens. So who better to showcase today, than the master of the teen movie... Mr John Hughes.

From Pretty in Pink, the title track... originally by the Psychedelic Furs.

Dresden Dolls - Pretty in Pink

Oh look, another Molly Ringwald sighting... From the original teen stereotype movie, The Breakfast Club, a cover of the signature song orignially by Simple Minds

Son Lux Feat. Dayna Kurtz - (Don't You) Forget about me

From the movie that pretty much made we want to get a computer just so I could create a Lisa of my own, Weird Science. This is the title track originally by the king of movie soundtracks... Danny Elfman and his band Oingo Boingo

Hellogoodbye - Weird Science

These last two are the actual songs from the movies, but they were already covers. Stray Cats covered The Crests, and the Magnificient Wayne Newton covered Bert Kaempfert.

we've got $70 - and we got a pair of girl's underpants. We are safe as kittens, okay? From Sixteen Candles

Stray Cats - Sixteen Candles

I do have a test today, that wasn't bullshit. It's on European Socialism. I mean, really, what's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they're Socialists? They could be fascist anarchists, it still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car. From Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Wayne Newton - Danke Schoen
