VOTD - Shooter Jennings & Heirophant - Summer of Rage

So I've been going through my albums trying to settle on my top ones of 2010, and then I came across Black Ribbons by Shooter Jennings. The first time I listened to it, I didn't feel it, but It definitely got better on the next listen. It is so weird. It sure as hell aint country... its like Shooter asked himself "Are you sure Waylon did it this way" and decided to head in a new direction.

Check it out. BTW, this video was directed by the FBI informant traitor girlfriend of Christopher from the Sopranos. weird.

Flaming Lips - See the Leaves (NSFW)

It's blurry but there is still a naked strategically blurred blindfolded chick throughout the entire video. It's so odd. Leave it to those wacky Okies. Regardless I had to share because it is mesmerizing and disturbing all at once.

Secret Cities

So Boon has actually just flown back from North Dakota. I know this because He texted me that he saw Danny Trejo, soon to be better known as Machete, at the airport. In honor of his Trip, and since we have already visited North and South Carolina musically this week, I decided it was time to tackle the Dakotas for today's edition of You Got Booned!

And where better to start in North Dakota, than with Fargo's very own Secret Cities. The Pysch Pop-emo band used to be called White Foliage, but now they've got a new name and more defined sound and a new album called Pink Graffiti. Inspired by the Music and the attitude of the Elephant 6 family of artists and a college thesis about Brian Wilson, and a few major life changes comes a surprisingly upbeat album that falls somewhere between The Dodos, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe and Of Montreal.

Carolina Chocolate Drops

I love me some old timey soundy music. Like something straight outa Oh Brother Where Art Thou?. In fact, I can watch Asylum Street Spankers and Guy Forsythe every single day if they did shows that often. Thats why I love me some Carolina Chocolate Drops. They Make me wanna do-see-do. They remind me lots of the Spankers, 'cept the Spankers (out of Austin TX) are a bunch of talented white musicians striving for that old blues sound, while the Chocolate Drops are one of the last African American string bands... trying to preserve it.

Carolina Chocolate Drops are from North Carolina. Which is a bit weird because I did a South Carolina Girl for yesterdays post. We are on like a magical musical tour of the US or something. Or Maybe its a total coincidence. Regardless, check out their latest effort Genuine Negro Jig. It's currently #2 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts. Yeah I didn't know that existed either. And I'm sure as hell Sure Dierks Bentley shouldn't be counted as bluegrass. but whatever. The album has some great covers... including what I consider to be a Jessica Rabbit cover of "Why don't you do Right"

And I gotta share this cover of Blu Cantrell

Cary Ann Hearst

Let me get on my country vibe...
I'm in love with a lady from South Carolina... hold on to me tight like a....
Sorry, I had Skunkweed on the brain for a second.... would have finished singing but its a lil vulgar. If you haven't heard them, you should. Sure they are a novelty band, but they show their ability as talented musicians to transcend genres by seamlessly from one to the next without losing a beat.

You know who else can do that? Cary Ann Hearst... and ironically she's a lady from South Carolina. (Yes I know I'm the king of transistions). Cary Ann has her roots in country, but she has no problem diggin her fingers into blues rock, bluegrass, to something out of the roaring twenties burlesque scene.... musically this is an auditory delight, but when you throw in the fact that she's a brilliant song writer, it becomes even more impressive. Her lyrics are sharp and witty and the stories she tells are enthralling. Also each song style seems to be crafted around the lyrics, making the music a soundtrack to the story.

And if that weren't enough, the chick can wail. She's got a distinctive set of pipes... A little Neko Case shows up from time to time, Sometimes its a little Alison Mosshart, Sometimes some Kasey Chambers, and at times Holly Golightly. And her voice always has some Wanda Jackson with a little Martha Wainright attitude.

So last nights True Blood (Season 3 Episode 6) had this song as the closing credits. Its the first song I heard from her off her Latest EP Are you ready to Die which came out in March. It's not indicative of her country style, but it freakin rocks and it totally has a Vampire Vibe much like Dead Weather 's "Rolling In on a Burning Tire" which is on a crappier vampire series' soundtrack.

Listen: Cary Ann Hearst" Hells Bells"

Mumford & Sons

Today on You got Booned we celebrate one of the greatest sitcoms of all time starring Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. Oh wait... sorry I read that wrong... Its not Sanford & Son, it's Mumford & Sons...

Mumford & Sons are out of West London, and have been around since 2007, and took their love of folk, bluegrass, and country to create their debut album Sigh no More ... big fan of the sound... It's like the Once Soundtrack Meets Kings of Leon and then they both decided to have tea with The Greencards. Btw... Have you ever had tea with a true Brit? You are supposed to have milk in your tea... well unless it's Earl Grey tea... then you can use the more traditional lemon. Its weird at first but you get used to it. Just thought you should know because knowing is half the battle.

Listen: Mumford & Sons" Little Lion Man"

Watch:

Dammit, I still got Sanford and son on the brain. I'm comin' Elizabeth! I'm coming to join ya!....

A collection of Sanford & Son Heart attack scenes....

And the theme song. cause it has to be done

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. THis aint the race for chase

Imagine my surprise when I was sitting around writing robot code as I usually do... listening to my play list, when I hear some music that tweaked my interest. I say to myself... Self... this should be posted. Then I look at the title to see that it is Dale Earnhardt Jr. My first thoughts.. where "Whoa... I always figured him for a more southern rock or country kind of guy". Then I decided there is no way this could be Junior. Between playing with his classic cars, and constantly losing races, there is no way he could have the time.

Well turns out that it was actually Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and they are a band out of Detroit. Which I guess is a clever name for a band from Detroit...naming themselves after a race car driver. They have a a new EP out called Horse Power. Oh the puns never stop. Regardless, they have a great happy sound which lies somewhere between Local Natives and Vampire Weekend.

IO ECHO gets right under your skin

Yes I know. Its been a long time. We need to get together and catch up soon. I've missed you so. I promise, next time I'll call and let you know where I am. I lost track of time. Work has gotten in the way as it usually does. But I'm back. At least till I leave the country for a while. But enough about me...

IO Echo. They are a band out of LA composed of two members... Joanna Gikas and Leopold Ross and they have a very interesting sound. It's like the Gossip meets CSS meets Siouxie and the Banshees, and IO ... (which is actually what some people called joanna for short... in greek her name is ioanna... but whatev... silly greeks and their collapsing economies) ...she looks like a a goth chick version of Mick Jagger on stage. Its good stuff, and yes you may have heard the song "Doorway" before on a Palm Pre commercial. Yeah its just as cool of a phone as the iphone, and with just as cool music on the commercials... and your pinky doesn't block the antenna hole when you talk.

Just kidding Mr Jobs. Please don't smite me.

Friday VOTD - Vampire edition

My god there are a lot of vampire shows on these days. Personally I'm a fan of True Blood and I plan on making a true blood inspired mixtape one of these days, but those twilight people... they got every girl and teeny bopper excited. And even if their sissy lala Vampires won't have sex before marriage, they can sure pick a soundtrack. Now if only they could figure out how to politely give Kristen Stewart acting lessons.

So here are my bunch of Vampire related videos... some of them stretch, but hey just enjoy the videos and get off my back! I don't need your abuse! You're not the boss of me...

..whoa sorry... got carried away there.., and on with the show....

Not the official Video mind you, but I have to share the song... Bat for Lashes and Beck collaborate for the Eclipse soundtrack and its an awesome song.

Here's a cool video from Black Mountain - Old Fangs

Another Sweet one from Woods - Death Rattles

Here's another strange little video by experimental metal band Ghengis Tron - Endless Teeth. Get it?

I guess you can count a vampire movie as a Monster Movie right? well here's Monster Movie - Bored Beyond Oblivion

And finally, new music from the Suckers.

Washed Out

Today's edition of You Got Booned features the music of the cartoon network. Seriously. Adult Swim has put out some mad tunes in their lifetime, and I think it all started with Danger Doom back in the day when Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Robot Chicken were the thing to watch. Now they are doing an Adult Swim Singles Promotion with Kia to put out 8 singles in 8 weeks for download.

Week 4 was the song "You and I" by Washed Out, featuring Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek. In case you don't know who Washed Out is... it is one guy... A one man band named Ernest Greene who made some damn fine music out of his bedroom. I guess there is one caveat though... He was in town not long ago... I had to miss the concert but Guy was quick to point out that because he's only one guy some equipment, he's not that exciting to see live. And I would expect that, since he's really got that Chillwave sound that is more suited for a loungy trendy scotch bar. Well, Boon Loved the song and requested I post and I agree with him. It reminds me a little of New Order or even Kenna from back in the day.

Listen: Washed Out" You and I "

And for shits and giggles I'm posting week 5's song too. The Black Lips are kinda of hit or miss, but when they hit, they knock it out of the freakin park.

Cymbals Eat Guitars

Cymbals Eat Guitars is another band out of New York, but unlike everybody else that's hot these days, they aren't from Brooklyn... They are actually from Staten Island. However nobody really cares unless you are actually from one of the boroughs. Regardless the latest album Why There Are Mountains was really well reviewed... I'll have to get back to you on my review however, because I haven't quite made it all the way through. However I really love the track "Wind Phoenix"... it's a Wilco meets a not so weird Architecture in Helsinki with a dash of Apples in Stereo.

Here ya go:

VOTD - Breakbot - Baby I'm Yours

Today its more about the video than the song... the song is pretty good... kind of a throwback to the Hall and Oates eighties... but this is a freaking cool video Directed by Irina Daveka from Wizz animation studios in France. Ooh la la. It ain't your average rotoscope... Over 2000 handpainted watercolor paintings were used. Craziness.

Montezuma's Revenge Mixtape

Boon is in vacation in beautiful Riviera Maya Mexico probably sipping tequila with his toes in the sand. Or more than likely he's lying on the beach naked and sunburned.

Meanwhile I'm stuck here trying make a deadline. Where is the fairness in that? Well for all of you peeps that like me don't get to be wasted in Mexico this week, I put together a lil' mixtape of the burgeoning indie scene in Monterrey and other parts of the country. So buy some cheap tequila for margaritas, turn on the mixtape, and watch as Mexico takes on France tomorrow in world cup action. It's almost the same. Ok maybe not, but like MGMT says, its time to pretend. Pretend time is fun. Oh and for an added bonus... a video from the Mexican Lily Allen... Natalia Lafourcade.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

I know... I'm sorry I can't help it... another retro soul psychedelia band. But I've been meaning to post these guys for some time... actually ever since Gabe and I were talking about them back in College Station a few months ago.... Not to mention that they are on the ever fabulous ACL lineup. AND... Quite honestly the music fits in with my summer in the fun soundtrack theme. Besides, being 60s retro is the rage these days. just like being 80s retro was last years theme. However, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros aren't your every day nostalgic hipsters riding the latest wave... I honestly think its more of a lifestyle choice. Alex Ebert of Ima Robot essentially created the essence for the band... his alter ego Edward Sharpe... after a bad breakup and a bout with addiction, and drawing his inspiration from Bob Dylan and Donavon, and with his resurrected life as Sharpe, gathered his band of merry musicians including the awesome vocals of Jade Castrinos to tour the world in a white school bus with a bus driver named Cornfed. Now that's a lifestyle. Actually some might call it a cult... Kinda like the Bright and Shiny kids from Bubble Boy. Bright..... and Shiiineeeeee....

Here is some stuff from the Self Titled Album. I know you are gonna hear a sixties folk and psychedelia influence, but you are also gonna hear some Journey in there. Sooner or later, it all comes back to Journey.

Listen: Edward Sharpe And the Magnetic Zeros " 40 Day Dream"

V. V. Brown

Another chick singer you may ask. Why yes. Yes it is. Part time fashion model / Singer Songwriter V.V. Brown is from the UK and she's definitely part of the retro-soul scene that was started by Winehouse and Duffy a few years back, and to a lesser extent the Pipettes. She's definitely one to watch as her jams seem to have staying potential as pop staples or soundtrack material... perhaps "Crying Blood" will show up on True Blood this season. Did you catch the premier. I was quite satisfied. The album is Traveling Like the Light.

Friday Video Dump

Sorry for the missed posts this week... deadlines kinda messing with my music life. I did manage to go see MGMT and Tame Impala this week though. I don't care what people say, the new MGMT album sounds good live. and Tame Impala is a trippy band to see live. the music was good, but they looked too stoned to actually care. and they weren't very personable.

So here's some videos... first some girls and boys...

Dum Dum girls - Bhang Bhang I'm a Burnout

Male Bonding - Years not Long ... with a video disturbingly living up to their name

and then a booty call?
Amy Miles has a new video. it's pretty awesome with its clever use of bananas . I noticed David Wain was in it and found out she's a long time collaborator with the guys from the State. I'm fairly certain those guys quietly rule the world.

Jemina Pearl hates people

Jemina Pearl is totally a Punk Rock Girl. I used to have all these sorts of definitions as to what Punk Really was, and I don't think I ever had it spot on. It's not how hard your music is. It's not how loud or how fast you play. It's not your socio-economic underlying message. It is all about attitude. It's about being a bad ass without having to have the word bad ass stamped on your forehead. And how better to disguise your bad-assedness than by playing 50s or 60s style popish music with darkish lyrics and looking all sweet and innocent.

But she's not innocent. She will beat you up. Always known as an explosive live performer, she's also been known to beat the ever living hell out of audience members who feel like they need to be vocal about the show. She made a guy Bleed in Detroit last year. Oh... If you don't know who Jemina is... she used to front Be your Own Pet before they broke up. Which is sad because they seemed like they were gonna be a pretty good band... personally I loved them. But now she's on her own and doing the same sort of music so I'm ok with that. The new album Break It Up dropped in Oct last year, and it has a few surprise guests like punk legend Iggy Pop and Tv on the Radio's Dave Sitek.

Covers Friday

Lets do a little Covers action today... Perhaps BP should come to recording artists to show people how to cover something... I mean they've already gone to James Cameron asking his help. I personally think his ideas would consist of ripping off something he saw in Costner’s Waterworld and then add the blue people. I smell blockbuster. Perhaps James Cameron could actually offer to do an underwater docu-drama-mentary of them using his ideas to plug the well. With CGI sea Monsters added in post of course in 3-D. and a manufactured love story between oil roughnecks. It could be like a Brokeback Titanic in the Abyss. But I digress.

Let's talk about Beck. Did you know that Beck actually wrote and produced the song by Charlotte Gainsbourg that I posted yesterday. He likes to pimp himself out... evening offering vocals on tracks of other artists, such as Tobacco and Bat for lashes. And getting on Vampire related soundtracks... hes' good at that too. But the greatest thing Beck does... He pays tribute to great albums by doing covers of said albums in a day. That's right... since June of last year he's been getting a bunch of bad ass artists together with no rehearsals and record a whole damn album in a day. This is from the INXS Kick cover with St. Vincent providing the vocals.

Record Club: INXS "Never Tear Us Apart" from Beck Hansen on Vimeo.

Speaking of tributes to greatness. Shel Silverstein was a brilliant writer and a brilliant songwriter. Best known for penning "A Boy Named Sue", he also wrote this little ditty made famous by Dr Hook and covered by Pixies Frank Black and Joey Santiago.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

Today on You got Booned... More happy music. yeah I know It's gonna happen all week people... I just got a 4 day extension on my project at work. I'm pretty less stressed so I'm ready for the happy music. Now you all know Denmark's The Asteroids Galaxy tour. You might not know you know them but you do. If not by name, but you definitely know the music. "Around the Bend" was featured in an itunes commercial. Yep. Told you.

So back in 2007 the band started with Lars Iverson and Mette Lindberg, with Lars doing the production and the songwriting and Mette doing the singing. They did some songs with all the music done on Lars' computer, and somehow it got around to Amy Winehouse, back when Amy was a big deal and not skeletor with implants and a crack pipe. Amy asked them to go on tour, and so they decided it was best to have a band so they called up their buds, practiced for like 20 minutes before doing their first show ever as a band opening for Amy.

Their debut album Fruit was finally released in September of 09 and they are currently on tour in Europe and quietly recording a new EP. but until we can scrape up some of the new stuff, here's some of the old. I included "Satellite" because it totally sounds like Len, Gorillaz and the Cardigans got together and made a song. Mette sounds a lot like Nina Persson sometimes. "Sun Ain't shining no more" was their first single... and it sounds like it belonged in a James Bond movie from the 60s... right up my alley... so I gave ya the video for that one.

Dum Dum Girls

I'm still on a kick of posting happy summer in the fun songs. I mean, schools out for Summer. Its like 100 degrees. Everybody already has a nice sunburn or peel going on. Wooderson is throwing a party at the Moon Tower... So it is my civic duty to help you make your summer soundtrack. So today we are going to spotlight Dee Dee and her Dum Dum Girls. The Dum Dum Girls have been around for a little bit, making a splash on the internet they started out as a one woman show and a homemade CDR demo. Dee Dee soon became the lo-fi queen de jour for a while... all the rage around the blogosphere. However me personally... I wasn't originally a fan. It was far too lo-fi for me, although I saw promise in the 60's bubble gum pop that was happening. Now with their debut full album I Will Be, there is a more production, and an all girl ensemble that brings it all together in a nice package of sparkling 60s punk pop goodness. Not to mention the fact that Dee Dee got Richard Gottehrer to produce the album... He's produced The Strangeloves, Blondie, the Go-Gos and the Raveonettes and penned the bubblegum anthems "My Boyfriend's Back" and "I Want Candy". How could this go wrong.

There are numerous fantastic tracks on the album. "Jail La La" was originally the title track when the album was supposed to be set in a women's prison in the 60's. "I will be" is the new title track straight out of a grindhouse flick. Other notable tracks would be "Your's Alone" and "Blank Girl"... the former featuring guitars from Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the latter with vocals of Brandon Welchez from the Crocodiles.

Foster the People

Ok kids, just in time for Memorial day weekend, here's a song that MUST make your summer/lake playlist because quite frankly by the end of the summer everybody will be listening to it. and you can just laugh in their face like the music snob you apire to be and pretty much say "yeah, but I heard it first". The band is called Foster the People. Now, remember when Peter, Bjorn, and John came out with "Young Folks" and we instantly fell in love with it... even when it became mainstream and was virtually everywhere? This song envokes that moment from me. Remember when you first heard the MGMT album? That was good times, right. Do you feel like they should have stuck with the same formula as the first record instead of going more experimental? Well from what I've heard of FTP, the new album should quench your thirst.

It's a bit amazing really. That the band shows so much promise that is. The band just formed in August of last year in LA. They haven't even put out an album yet... not even an EP to my knowledge. Hell, they barely played their first gig in January but still managed to win over a lot of peeps at SXSW... including I'm guessing Sony who I speculate picked the band up (since they are no longer streaming all their tracks on their website). The bands recipe... PB&J + MGMT with a dash of Phoenix, and a smidgeon of CWK all broiled in a Postal Service broth .... Now doesn't that just scream indie turned commercial success? Yes, perhaps I've over-hyped the song and it may just fall into the dismal abyss of the blogosphere never to be seen again, but I'm sure as hell gonna jam to it.

(drumroll)
so without further adieu... your new WTF approved summer anthem.... "Pumped up Kicks"

The National

Today on You got Booned, we have the National, who earlier this month released their fifth album to date, High Violet. If you don't know the National, they have a bit of reputation for being a bit gloomy. Defintiely a Morrisey-ish type of Shoegaze... or a piano centric, less industrial version of Joy Division. And honestly who could blame them for the melancholy... They live in freakin' Ohio. And who wants to live in Ohio. I mean, once Lebron leaves, it pretty much has got nothin.

Anyways, they set out to make the new album a bit happier than the rest, but that didn't happen. It may be a little bit more upbeat than the last albums, but it is definitely not happier. High Violet doesn't really stray too far from their normal formula. Well written lyrics with characters that seem like everyday people with everyday problems yet are just a little more effed up... check. Matt Berringer crooning Sad bastard vocals that could invoke wrist slitting if not for the slightly arousing Barry Whitish factor... check. Piano/drum driven melodies that stick in your head and pull it all together... check. From Start to finish, this might not be their best album, but the best songs on the album may be better than the best from previous outings... and when you are talking about songs like "Karen", "Fake Empire", and "Slow Show"... that's a bold statement. If I had a choice I'd post every track except the first two of the album.... its too hard to decide.

And I love Conversation 16.... How can you not love a cannibal love song. I usually got a two song limit per album tho, so I'll have to bump "Afraid of Everyone" to video status even though it is a bad ass song as well.

Jookabox

It sounds like a movie character with a bad italian accent trying to say Jukebox, but in reality Jookabox is a mighty fine band from Indianapolis. Originally called Grampall Jukabox, it was a solo effort by David "Moose" Adamson. BTW I really don' t know what you can do to earn yourself a nickname called Moose. He's got a beard now and all, but he doesn't seem all that moosey. Remember You can't do that on Television. The girl host on that was named Moose, and I never knew why. Oh well, so where was I... he recorded the first two albums on his own, then collaborated with his drummer on the breakout album Dead Zone Boys. Now they have a permanent 4 piece band, and a new album coming out called Membranes so they are keeping busy and will probably be on more peep's radar. It's a really weird random sound... apparently they've been labeled "Ghost punk" and if I had any clue what that means, I would probably argue with it but oh well. Here's something old (Evil Guh) and something new (Eyes of the Fly Demo).

Generationals

Here's another song for your summer happy time playlist, and its from Nawlin's based Generationals. It's a fitting name... their album Con Law doesn't really have just one sound... it's like its just indie pop that spans generations... One minute you think you are listening to something out of the 70's Elton John catalog, the next you are listening to a Tom Pettyish song, then a little Paul Simon Action, then perhaps a something a little MGMTish, and then to top it all off you get some late 60ish Phil Spector girl band pop... Complete with the domestic violence undertones. It's quite the aural experience. But the common thing... its very happy music. Perfect for grillin or sitting by the pool. or since they are from the big easy, perhaps a crawfish boil...

The below video doesn't have Tess so I guess I'll give a little background on the band. The Band started when the band Eames Era fell apart after five years. Band members Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer decided they still had music to offer the world, and went back to New Orleans and recorded the bunch of songs that they had written, which became the album. Like MGMT they started out as a twosome, but decided they needed more. They met Tess Bruneh from Au Ras Au Ras in 2009, and she became their drummer. And quite frankly having a girl drummer gives the boys far more cred in my book. Hell now when they perform live, they can have as much as seven members... including backup singers, trumpet players, and probably more cowbell. They just finished up their spring tour with Apples in Stereo, so I expect some more stuff soon. for now have a listen to what I've got...

Covers Friday - VOTD edition

Oh yeah Covers Friday is back with a vengeance... I think I'm gonna actually go the entire video route too. Mostly because I'm busy and quite honestly lazy.

Lets Start of with Lucinda Belle covering Lady Gaga... Ms Belle is a Radio 2 Darling that just signed on with Capital, so I'm sure they will be hunting down my posts of her before too long. Until then, its a live version of Telephone

Seriously I post a lot of MGMT covers... especially of this song. but I think this version is my favorite thusfar.

and this is probably the most "special" cover of Bon Jovi. It is unique.

Speaking of Metal... Dio died. isn't that sad. I'm sure he's now sitting at the right hand of satan. I know this isn't a Dio-sabbath cover, but I'm still posting. I'm sorry I didn't like Dio when he wasw in Sabbath.

Although I was a bit of a fan of Dio solo work. or was it Rainbow. It all runs together. here's a cover of Holy Diver....

And on the lighter side of things, a little Pixie lott

Surfer Blood

While everyone at the University of Florida was concerned with Tim Tebow; his heisman run, his virginity, his stupid little eye messages and not to mention national championships and such, West Palm Beach based Surfer Blood was busy recording their debut album Astro Coast in their off campus apartment down in Boca Raton. They probably didn't even like Tim Tebow. Hell, they probably didn't even like football. They definitely didn't like the surfer kids who used to torment them in their youth. Perhaps thats why the name arose... to call for the waters to run red with the surfer kids blood. No matter though, because its a far better name than Jabroni Sandwich. I shit you not... that's what they used to be called. And I can only imagine that the name was an homage to WWE superstar The Rock, back before he started dressing like the tooth fairy for Disney movies.

Now with a name like Surfer Blood, you will be led to think its a bit of surf revival rock, but that isn't really the case. Sure you can hear a bit of Beach Boys influence, especially with the heavier reverb vocals on some songs and some of the riffs, but if I had to describe their sound, I would probably consider them closer to a cross between Vampire Weekend and Weezer and the Cure (but only on the happy songs) with a touch of the Smiths and strangly enough a dash of Asia (or is it Toto... I get confused with them some time). So yeah, what I'm trying to say is that Tim Tebow blows goats and I hope he gets laughed off the field in Denver, if he ever makes it on the turf that is. Oh, and that Astro Coast is just happy goodness., and would be a perfect addition to your summer music rotation, you Jabronis. If you smell... what the Bob... is cooking.

Wolf Parade

Today on You Got Booned... Wolf Parade. Ah 2005. This was the awakening to the masses... when real people (as opposed to music snobs like me and boon) started caring about indie bands due to sudden popularity of the Garden State Soundtrack and bands such as Modest Mouse. Wolf Parade seemed to be just another Canadian buzzband, yet the keyboard/vocalist Spencer Krug already had quite the resume and list of cohorts. Being a part of Frog Eyes and Sunset Rubdown, and hanging out with the Arcade Fire gave the band the indie cred they needed to be praised by the emerging blog scene, yet they had the sound that was able to appeal to the new audience craving accessible indie music, thus with the release of Apologies to the Queen Mary, Wolf Parade became internet superstars. Flash forward to now... after a bit of a sophomore slump the third album Expo 86 due out on June 29th, and it has just as much buzz and expectations as the first album. Here's a taste

VOTD - Raveonettes - Heart of Stone

Here's a lil bonus Raveonettes action for ya.... Comingtoyaaaahaaaa !!!! yeah sorry bout that... but I dig this video. Now back to my hole to work....

Soft Pack

ACL lineup is out people! Doesn't that just make you excited! Well it does me. One of the bands heading up the div 1-AA bands is the Soft Pack... from a Whales Vagina... I mean San Diego... Damn you Ron Burgandy! So Much like MGMT, the band started as a two piece, then started to tour as a full band and opened for some kick ass bands.. The Breeders, Bloc Party, Black Keys... etc. Well they got a lot of buzz in 2008 at sxsw.. Course back then they were called the Muslims. A lot of people raised hell about the name however, which was really unfortunate cause they were gathering so much steam... but whatever. so now they are called the Soft Pack. They released their latest self titled album back in February, and it is pure retro garage rock goodness.
